Jean-Baptiste Boudard
1710 - 1768
Jean-Baptiste Boudard was born in Paris in 1710 into a family of artists. After studying in Rome, where he created the statue of Saint Gregory the Great for the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, he worked in Naples before returning to France. In 1749 he settled permanently in Parma, following the court of Philip of Bourbon, where he remained until his death in Sala Baganza in 1768.
For nearly twenty years, Boudard worked on the reconstruction of the Ducal Garden alongside the architect Ennemond Alexandre Petitot. He created numerous marble statues and monumental decorative works, becoming a citizen of Parma in 1765 and being appointed First Court Sculptor in 1768. Many of his sculptures can still be admired today in Parma's Ducal Garden.
